As with the hip, there are a lot of crossovers between pain in the shoulder and the cervical spine or neck. The difference is that shoulder pain tends to be worse when you hold your arm up, but pain caused by a pinched nerve in the neck actually feels better when holding the arm above the head. Turning the head to the side tends to aggravate a pinched nerve in the neck.
